Sam has tested gear and provided emergency care in many of the most extreme mountain environments. He worked on Denali Rescue as a paramedic to provide care and technical rescue to ill and injured climbers on Denali (which he has summited). He has worked as a full-time ski patroller and developed avalanche control experience using explosives, acting as a route leader. He holds certifications in swift water rescue, Avalanche Level II, and Wilderness EMT-B. He is passionate about rock climbing, skiing and has traveled frequently throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, South America, and Europe, living and climbing in National Parks and Wilderness Areas.
