Our Analysis
The Metolius Bouldering Bag is a great way to store gear in a pad that is tight on space. It has simple, no frills and lightweight construction. It folds flat, which gives it a low profile and disperses gear over a larger surface area. It has a good amount of volume and will hold four-plus pairs of shoes and a chalk bag or two pairs of shoes and lunch, water, etc. It is not an essential purchase if you have a bouldering pad that will easily hold a medium-sized backpack. In that case, we would just use any old pack that is lying around. But if you have a pad that doesn't hold much, this is a great option. The shoulder strap is comfortable but we did not find we used it much. The price is about right if you boulder a lot. If you don't boulder much, you could improvise something else.
