Teva Voya Flip Review
Our Verdict
Our Analysis and Test Results
The Teva Voya is soft and pillowy with excellent out-of-the-box comfort. These flips are true to size and accommodate most foot shapes with ease.
Performance Comparison
Comfort
The Voya is very comfortable from day one, but will also begin to form to your feet after a few wears. The pillowy footbed dries quickly but is just as comfortable when wet and the thick, flat straps are soft and don't cause blisters. The EVA outsoles are lightweight so you don't have to worry about a heavy flip, flopping you in the heel with every step.
The Voya is meant for casual use. While they remain comfortable all day, they are not going to take you on a long journey to the top of a mountain. They are also a little narrow, so those with particularly wide feet may want to size up to ensure that the straps are not too tight and to avoid having your feet fall over the sides of the footbed.
Support
Support is a very important metric; however, it is slightly less of an issue if you plan on utilizing your flips more casually. The Voya offers very moderate support. The minimal arch provides some contour to the footbed and the thick comfy straps help hold it snug to the foot. After a few wears, the top sole begins to form to your foot, giving it a little more contouring.
That said, with minimal footbed contouring and lack of a heel strap, the Voya can only offer so much support. Because it lacks these two attributes, its score is average in this metric. For a casual flip, this is no big deal, and the lack of support does not affect the comfort or wear length in the slightest. For those with flatter arches looking for a casual shoe, this is a great option.
Traction
The outsole is textured with various medium-deep canals scattered across the bottom of the shoe in the shape of little triangles. The top sole is soft and receives the foot quite nicely, offering optimal surface area connection and surprisingly good traction when dry. When soaked, it tends to feel a little slippery. That being said, the Voya dries very quickly so it only remains slippery when submerged in water.
Overall, the Voya has just okay traction. While there is some texture on the outsole, it simply does not perform as well as some of the more cleated options in our review.
Versatility
This fun-looking and super comfortable sandal is great for any casual adventure. A quick walk down the beach? No problem. Want to spend the day by a lake? These are great. With quick-drying technology, the Voya is a great option for a water day, although its lack of traction and support inhibit its ability to be a good boating shoe, so it's best to stay close to land when you're sporting these. It also works just fine for a short, not-so-steep, hike, but we would suggest something with more support and a heel strap for ascending steep or loose terrain.
Style
These shoes are great for any casual outfit. They are not overly sporty looking so you don't need to be wearing activewear for them to look appropriate. They come in fun, funky patterns, colors, or simple neutral tones.
Value
The Voya are fairly priced. They fall on the less expensive side of our test suite. While they are not the most technical shoes, they work great in any casual application.
Conclusion
These flip flops are durable, comfortable, and casual enough to wear with most outfits. They are great for days by the water as they dry very quickly and their comfort is not affected by moisture. The soft sole forms to the foot but offers optimal comfort right out of the box. If you are looking for a good all-around casual slip-on that is comfortable and affordable, then the Teva Voya Flip is a wonderful option.
