Our Verdict

Truly one of the lightest rain boots we've tested, the Crocs Jaunt Shorty will float like a rubber duck (and ours were yellow like one, too). They provided sufficient comfort and performed just above average in weather protection, traction, and warmth. It's an ankle-height, or “shorty” model, which means they rise above the ankles but do not reach the calf. Lightweight, they are incredibly easy to put on, take off, and carry around. The design appealed to some while others found that the bright color drew too much attention. Rest assured, they are available in a color that will not make you feel like a Skittle.

Our Analysis and Test Results

The Crocs Jaunt Shorty are constructed for a very wide and roomy fit. Ultralight, they are made from a fully-molded Croslite resin with a rubber outsole. There's no lining or insole; in fact, there's nothing else to the boot beside the resin, as is traditional for Crocs.

Weather Protection

Measuring only 7.75 inches from the ground, these short boots don't offer as much protection from the elements as the taller options do. They also have holes cut out from the sides of the shaft which diminish the overall effective waterproofing to 5.25 inches from the ground.

Comfort

At an impressive 1.05 lbs for the size 8 we tested, this model is easy to carry and pack, not to mention walk in. Mobility is not impeded unless going up an incline, as the Croslite resin itself is firm. The front of the shaft did not flex for our shins. This boot is specifically designed to have a “generous, roomy fit,” and there's ample room for thick socks, added insoles, or high-volume feet. On par with other models, they were bested by the comfort of the award-winning models.

Style

The style of Crocs seem to be that of: you either like them or you don't. We purchased the lemon and they are very bright. Fun and cheery, there isn't much going on besides the evident molding and white accents. Big, bold and wide, they reminded us of rain boots you might find in children's books. In true Crocs fashion, there are holes for Jibbitz charms.

Traction

With minimal tread, these boots performed fairly average in our tests. They weren't incredibly stable in the snow, especially if there were inclines involved. Fortunately, if you live in a place that snows, you may already own a pair of winter boots. We found that they perform best in wet grass and even more so across wet, flat surfaces.

Warmth

The material insulates surprisingly well for not being made with conventional rubber. Having a roomier foot box also allows for air to become an insulate. In turn, these boots are slightly warmer than a typical mild-weather boot. They did not out-perform the highest scorer in the warmth metric, however.

Fit

With whole sizes from 4-11, Crocs recommends sizing up if you wear a half-size. Our lead tester was a 7.5, so we purchased the 8. Unfortunately, we would have preferred sizing down instead. The roomy fit is very generous, and even with thick socks, we would have favored a snugger fit. The circumference of the boot opening is 12.5 inches, which is also rather wide for how short they are, adding to the feeling of being a bit too large, overall.

An interesting thing we read in numerous customer comments was that, if left in direct sunlight over long periods of time, these boots may shrink. We weren't willing to actively give that a test, but we left them near a shoe rack by a glass door and didn't notice any shrinkage.

Value

From Colorado, but manufactured in Vietnam, these ultralight boots are one the cheapest we recently reviewed. A tremendous value for adequate rainwear, we would definitely recommend these simple Crocs if you're a fan of the style.

Conclusion

A fun boot to wear if you're keen on the look and wider width. Harnessing the power of minimalism, they are a highly durable and inexpensive option.
