Flylow Jane Review

You will ski with style and ease in the Flylow Jane. Its supple fabric allows for great movement and its ski features will help you perform your best on the slopes.

Performance Comparison

Warmth

The Jane kept us warm on cold and windy storm days. Its thick exterior fabric blocks the wind and we never felt any drafts through the zippers. You can zip its cozy collar all the way up to your nose for maximum protection from the elements. The Jane is lightly insulated with warm, synthetic Yeti Loft insulation that is thicker in the body and lighter in the arms. This is not the warmest jacket we tested, but for stormy days in California it was just right. We like that its hem line swoops down to keep our rear covered when sitting on the chair lift.

Water Resistance

Waterproofed with a DWR coating and 10k/10k waterproof breathable membrane, we found the Jane to score in the middle of the pack in the water resistance category. It kept us dry on wet stormy days, but after a few days of use, the coating had begun to wear a bit and the jacket wet out more quickly. The

Ventilation

We like the Jane's large, gaping pit-zips. They provide immediate relief when things heat up. They are not mesh backed, however, so can allow for snow to get in if you happen to take a tumble when they are open. We think the stretchy exterior fabric and synthetic insulation will render the Jane more breathable than some jackets with down insulation/Gore-Tex combinations like the Primo Down.

Ski Features

Flylow puts a lot of thought into their products in this category, as they solely make clothing for the slopes. Our favorite features of this jacket are the removable snow skirt and the integrated media pocket so we can listen to our tunes discreetly. The hood fits over a helmet perfectly, and stays on when you don't want snow to get down your collar. The hem swoops down to cover the rear end and prevent drafts, plus provide extra warmth when sitting on the chair lift.

Style

This jacket looks better in person than it does on the Flylow website. We weren't sure about its boxy, multi-color design before we had it in our hands. The Jane is not the most feminine and flattering jacket we have tested (we think the Orage Lou Lou wins in this category), but we feel like we can rip some big lines and hang with the boys when wearing it. We think that the Jane has a certain steeze factor that not many of the other jackets we tested have. We would be happy wearing it around town, to the bar, or on the slopes.

Comfort and Fit

We think the Jane is very comfortable. Its soft, stretchy exterior materials allow for great movement when skiing. For those of us with bigger hips, we found the cut of this jacket a bit unfortunate, there seems to be a lot of room in the bust area and less around the hips. This creates awkward bunching in the chest area while the jacket feels a bit tight around the hips. That being said, a size medium seems right on par.

Best Application

This jacket is made for slaying pow and ripping big lines at the ski resort. It is a great choice for any kind of resort skiing.

Value

At $280, the Flylow Jane is a great value. It will keep you warm, dry, comfortable, and performing well on the ski slopes with all its great ski features. It does not have a RECCO reflector, which is becoming fairly standard in ski jackets. The least expensive ski jacket that you can buy with RECCO is The North Face Point It Down.
