Amazon Core 10 Build Your Own Review
Our Verdict
Our Analysis and Test Results
Amazon's Core 10 Build Your Own was a pleasant surprise. These durable yoga pants held up very well compared to some of the more expensive pairs we tried. This pair is a great option for activities like climbing, yoga in colder environments, or as an under-layer for skiing/snowboarding.
Performance Comparison
Breathability
The Core 10 Build Your Own were the thickest and least breathable of the yoga pants we tested, and they scored near the bottom of the group in this metric. They are not our first choice for hot yoga, but we found these pants were an excellent choice for winter activities such as skiing, snowboarding, or cross-country skiing.
For low and medium-impact activities, poor breathability is not a problem. In fact, it was nice to have a pant that provided extra heat when trying to build an internal fire in a cold room. We also love these pants for everyday use, and their warmth makes them perfect for the winter months when it is too cold for your Lululemon Align. You can easily dress them up with your favorite sweater and pair of boots.
If you are looking for a pant for hot weather or hot yoga, these are not it, as the material holds onto sweat and does not dry quickly. We could not get out of these pants fast enough after hot yoga or rigorous exercise.
Ease of Movement
Ease of movement is not a problem during low and medium-intensity activity. The pants provide just the right amount of compression to help you feel supported and keep everything in the right place.
Problems arise during high-intensity activity. These pants slowly start to ride down, giving us a saggy crotch, and we find ourselves continually pulling them up by the waist.
Comfort and Fit
The Core 10 Build Your Own leggings genuinely allow you to build your own pant. They come in three different waist styles; cross-waist, high-waist, and medium-waist. There are also three different length options: regular, short, and tall. We tried the high-waisted regular length. While we found them to be fairly competitive in this metric compared to more expensive pants, they still only earned an average score.
The material is Amazon's “Studiotech” blend consists of 88% polyester and 12% spandex. This blend was very soft, making them comfortable enough to take a nap or exercise. Waistbands are a tricky part; too tight, and you get a pesky muffin-top on your waist. Too loose, and you are fighting to keep your pants up. The appeal of high-waisted yoga pants is that they fit around the most narrow part of our torso, hopefully helping keep your pants up. Core 10 did a great job creating a pant that doesn't hold on too tight. Lastly, we loved the unique line of the seam down the pant leg. It is very flattering and provides a ton of support during activities.
Durability
The Core 10 leggings are surprisingly durable, and it is one of the best features of these pants. With many others in the same price range, the seams come apart quickly. If you've had a pair of cheap yoga pants, you are probably familiar with the sounds of seams ripping when you pull them up too quickly; this is not the case with Core 10.
They are also very thick, which means they do not rip easily, making them great for more extreme sports such as rock climbing. Due to their thickness, they are not see-through when you bend over. There wasn't any pilling where our thighs rubbed together, which happened with many pairs.
Should You Buy the Amazon Core 10 Build Your Own?
These are sturdy yoga pants and come at a great price. While they are not the most breathable, sometimes that is the tradeoff for higher durability. The Core 10s are an excellent option for sports where you may rub against hard surfaces, such as rock climbing. They were not the best for high-impact activities, such as running or HIIT, but they are great for yoga in cold spaces or casual wear around town. We are seriously impressed by the quality of Core 10 Build Your Own pant, and they are great for people looking for the most bang from their buck.
What Other Yoga Pants Should You Consider?
The value of Core 10 exceeded our expectations. Other yoga pants we tried at this price point, like 90 Degree by Reflex High Waist Powerflex, had seams that quickly came apart. The seams on Core 10 held strong, and there was also minimal pilling in high-friction areas like in between our legs. However, if you are looking for a super breathable pair for your hot yoga practice, you may feel suffocated in these, and we recommend looking at the Lululemon Align High Rise instead.
