Our Verdict

This is a great buy, and we recommend the Yogi 4 to those looking for a purely relaxing sandal. It's durable for all its simplicity, but offers little-to-no support, especially after it breaks in. If you want a pair of shoes to wear everywhere, every day, go with our Editors' Choice, the OluKai Ohana, or the Reef Phantoms for those on a budget. All that said, the Yogi got a perfect score for comfort and wins our Top Pick Award for this reason. If you want your flips to influence your mood, this is the one to make you chill out and enjoy your day, your week, or if you live in them, your life. Another comfort champion is the Sanuk Fraid Not, which offers less squishy comfort but more of a bedroom slipper vibe.

While Sanuk has yet to get back to us with a full list of updates to this sandal, below we have listed the changes we have been able to deduce from their website.
  • Canvas Strap Material — The Yogi 4 has an updated strap with heavier material and a slightly different weave pattern.
  • Nylon Webbing Toe Strap — The Yogi 3 utilized a synthetic leather toe strap, while the toe strap on the Yogi 4 has been updated with nylon webbing.

While we haven't tested the Yogi 4, we expect it to perform in a similar manner to the Yogi 3. The text in the rest of this review reflects our testing period of the Yogi 3.

Hands-On Review of the Yogi 3

Likes

If you are gearing up for a chill day, there is no reason not to grab the Sanuk Yogi 3. These flips are unbelievably comfortable! Super squishy soles mold instantly to your feet, and the straps are cushioned and wide. These were the flips we grabbed to walk the dog around the block, head to the laundromat, and ride our cruiser to Yoga. They are virtually weightless and — inexplicably — comforting. It might sound strange for a shoe to be comforting, but I can't explain it any other way. Maybe it's because every time I put them on I knew I was going out for something relaxing and mellow. And maybe because they are made of Yoga mats.

Dislikes

The Sanuk Yogi 3 feels so squishy and comfy that it becomes somewhat limited in its uses. There is no arch support so prolonged wear isn't the best for the feet and body. Also, the flip seems to absorb water and “foam” when it gets wet, just like a Yoga mat of course! They weren't the most slippery of the flips (that would be the Keen Florence) but I also didn't like getting them wet as they then felt soggy.

Application

Chose this flip flop when you want to relax and if you like virtually weightless shoes.

Value

For $36, you get possibly the most comfortable flip I have ever worn. However, this flip is for shorter amounts of time when arch support is not a major factor. Use them as an additional pair of flips, but not your only pair. They are also very durable and still look great after months of use. They are much more comfortable than the Havianas Top because they have a much better strap.
