Our Verdict

The goodr BAMFGs are the original style of wayfarer-like shades with a sportier function. We tested the “beast” version, which is designed for wider heads, and were impressed by how well they live up to that size claim. Their larger lenses and mirrored finish look sporty yet cool and stylish while still being fairly light and versatile. We're less impressed by the finishing details of their silicone components and the distracting back reflection in bright light. Still, they're a decent pair of glasses that easily accommodate large heads for a good price.
REASONS TO BUY

Good fit for large heads
REASONS TO AVOID
Silicone details aren't the best
Intense back-lens reflections
Odd feel

Our Analysis and Test Results

We tested the goodr BAMFGs with their lenses fondly named Beelzebub's Bourbon Burpees. They're a Large/Wide fit and come with a microfiber storage bag and the option to keep the magnetic-closure manufacturer's box.

Lens Quality

When it comes to lens quality, the Beelzebub's Bourbon Burpees lenses are just okay. They're a grey lens with a mirror finish, giving them a neutral hue rather than the contrast-enhancing properties of more advanced lenses — or just plain brown lenses. Though mirror coatings typically help reflect even more light, the BAMFGs are just “average”, "fine", and “okay” in bright light.

  • Polarized
  • 100% UV Protection
  • Unspecified Visible Light Transmission (Category 3)
  • 0% HEV/Blue Light Blockage, 0% Infrared Blockage
  • Color: Grey, Material: Triacetate Cellulose
  • Impact Resistant, Anti-Scratch, Mirror

However, that mirror coating does seem to pick up fingerprints incredibly fast. They're not hard to clean off, but we found ourselves cleaning these sunglasses a LOT. We're also unimpressed by the amount of reflection on the backs of the lenses. The lack of anti-glare coating is exacerbated by how far away from our faces they sit and how wide the lenses are, leaving plenty of extra room on the edges to clearly see what's behind you or examine the hair follicles on your face.

Comfort

Weighing 27 grams, these shades are about the average weight among sports models we tested. They have a silicone piece that forms both nose pads and stretches over the bridge of the nose, as well as textured silicone on the ends of the bows. While all of this sounds fine in principle, we just don't love how they feel. Some testers found the top of the bridge to be too tight, some found the silicone nose pads to be too hard, and some didn't like how the little silicone circles on the bow feel on the skin above the ears or when pulling through hair. Overall, they're not a bad-feeling pair of glasses, but we aren't big fans of all the little details that are supposed to make them better but end up detracting from our experience wearing them.

Frame Quality

The polycarbonate frames are reasonably thick, with full-width integrated standard hinges that can easily be adjusted from the bottom. The overall construction feels pretty good and we had no issues during our testing. However, we're less impressed with the quality and integration of the silicone nose pads/bridge and silicone temple grips. All three of these areas appear sloppy in their manufacturing and unimpressive in their attachment to the main body of the frames. Though we experienced no durability issues with these silicone patches, we have longevity concerns.

Style and Versatility

In general, we like the style and shape of wayfarer sunglasses. However, the execution of that style by the BAMFGs is slightly off in proportion and we like less than expected. The lenses are a bit too tall for how wide they are, in our opinion. That said, they're still pretty neat, overall, with a sporty element added by the mirror coating.

Coverage

Large lenses and a lack of a keyhole in the bridge lend a fair bit of coverage to these shades. But they're rather flat, leaving plenty of space on the sides for sunlight to get in. The silicone pads help hold them in place when you need them to, but also allow them to raise off your face when you smile.

Case Quality

These come with a very thin, lightweight microfiber drawstring case. It works fine for cleaning the lenses but is a touch small for these oversized glasses.

Value

The BAMFGs are some of the least expensive sports sunglasses we tested. They have the potential to be of great value to you, but this depends completely on your personal preference of fit and feel. If you can try them on before you buy (or return them if desired), they have a decent combination of interesting looks, wide fit, and low price that may be just right for you.

Conclusion

The goodr BAMFGs are a low-cost pair of shades with an oversized option that's actually oversized. They're not blowing our minds with their performance but are a solid buy if you like their specific fit and feel.
