Our Analysis and Test Results
The Kammok Roo Double features a sleek and thoughtful design that prioritizes comfort and versatility thanks to details like a DWR and crinkle-free treated ripstop fabric lined with eight attachment points. Whether you're utilizing the gear loops to keep small items off the ground or attaching an underquilt or other accessory, the versatility can't be beat. This double hammock is super easy to set up and rated to an industry standard weight capacity of 500 pounds. Details like the Dyneema cord within the end-gathered design combine with the climbing-rated carabiners that fasten to the suspension straps (sold separately) to offer durability without tipping the scales. This hammock packs down to the size of a Nalgene water bottle, making it a great option for everyday comfort, yet versatile enough to customize for your backcountry shelter.
Performance Comparison
Comfort
The Kammok Roo Double is one of the most comfortable hammock designs we tested. The GravitasX 40D diamond ripstop fabric is noticeably softer, more flexible, and highly breathable for those hot summer afternoons. The fabric is also treated with a crinkle-free and DWR water-resistant coating for a smooth and quick-drying performance. The fabric is 100% recycled and Bluesign-approved, meaning you can feel good spending lots of time interacting with a fabric free of harmful dyes and chemicals.
During our testing period, we noted no body ailments or concerns after taking an extended afternoon snooze in this highly comfortable hammock. The cocoon-like shape measures 10' long x 6' wide when fully extended, making it a spacious design perfect for one person to wrap up in or two people to snuggle. Though it does not offer a spreader bar, our testers found it comfortable to lay horizontally and seated upright. If you combine this hammock with the Python 10 suspension straps (sold separately), you will find tons of adjustment points within each 10' long strap. This allows for multiple options to attach the climbing-grade carabiners along the secure strap for a custom and personalized setup. If you're after a lightweight hammock design that prioritizes comfort with an ethically-made, 100% recycled, and Bluesign-approved material, the Kammok Roo Double should be high on your list.
Ease of Setup
The Kammok Roo Double features an intuitive design that makes for an easy, frustration-free setup. The end-gathered Dyneema attachment points and climbing grade carabiners easily fasten to the Python 10 suspension straps after girth-hitching the straps between two trees ranging between 15 and 20 feet apart. The Python 10 straps offer excellent adjustability thanks to multiple loops for attaching the carabiner, and their long 10-foot length makes it easier to select trees for setup.
Our testers never had to consult any instructions for setup, allowing full assembly in just minutes. Though the attached stuff sack is compact and small, there is just enough room to pack up this lightweight hammock, which made breaking down just as easy as setting up. The Kammok Roo Double offers a somewhat traditional end-gathered design with high-quality components that work together seamlessly to allow for easy setup and breakdown whether you're out for a backcountry overnight or just looking to chill out for the afternoon.
Durability and Protection
The Kammok Roo Double features a smart design that includes details to reinforce the structure without adding anything unnecessary. The super soft fabric is constructed from GravitasX 40D diamond ripstop that features a DWR and crinkle-free treatment to enhance comfort while aiding the fabric in water resistance. This fabric is also rated to an industry standard 500-pound capacity, which gave our testers confidence as they exceeded the proposed limit while suspended above the ground.
This excellent design also features climbing-grade carabiners referred to as “kanga claws” that can support up to 4,720 pounds of force within the system. This is quite impressive, as the carabiners are some of the more compact ones we tested. The Python 10 straps we purchased separately for testing also inspire confidence with their thin and sleek construction, which allows for several adjustments without sacrificing the strength and structure of the design. All that being said, the 100% recycled fabric did show some signs of wear when rubbing against tree bark, and it is softer and more supple than its competitors, so we question exactly how well it will withstand the test of time. Overall, this sleek, lightweight hammock features details like climbing grade attachment carabiners, Dyneema cord, and treated ripstop fabric to up the ante and enhance overall durability, all backed by a lifetime manufacturer warranty.
Versatility
The Kammok Roo Double offers more versatility than most hammocks we tested, thanks to eight small gear loops running along the fabric's sides. While these attachment points are discreet when not in use, they are designed to store small essential items nearby and off the ground, for attaching a pillow for additional comfort, or for creating a versatile and functional backcountry setup by purchasing an underquilt designed by the manufacturer for optimal overnight comfort.
The stuff sack also allows for multi-purpose use as it remains attached to the hammock and sits right in the middle of the canopy, allowing for easy access and storage of small items like your cell phone or favorite snack. The gear loops are the gateway to converting this day-use hammock into a full backcountry shelter, as you can use them to attach several accessories purchased separately. Kammok thought of everything from gear slings to tarps to bug nets and just about everything in between. Should you seek maximum versatility, though not included with your initial purchase, beyond a stuff sack that also doubles as a pocket, the Kammok Roo Double has tons of versatile potential whether you're chilling solo or with your sweetheart.
Weight
Weighing in at 16.64 ounces for the hammock only and only 24 ounces for the hammock and straps combined, the Kammok Roo Double is among the lighter-weight hammocks we've tested. The hammock itself stands apart from the rest, featuring a diamond weave ripstop fabric designed to drop the number on the scale yet continue to perform in terms of water resistance, breathable comfort, and durability. The Dyneema attachment points and the climbing-grade carabiners prioritize strength without adding weight to the design.
The Kammok Roo Double is also one of the most compact and packable hammocks we tested, as the hammock and straps pack down smaller than your favorite Nalgene water bottle. This double-size hammock neatly packs into a water-resistant stuff sack measuring 9" long × 4.5" wide and features a roll-top design for maximum space savings. The super-light construction and the highly packable design make it easy for our testing team to recommend this hammock for everything from an afternoon snooze to backcountry overnights.
Should You Buy the Kammok Roo Double?
If you're interested in a sleek and versatile hammock that is highly packable and requires very little space in your day pack, the Kammok Roo Double is the hammock for you. It features a GravitasX 40D diamond ripstop fabric that supplies a crinkle-free experience and a DWR water-resistant treatment yet remains breathable and dries quickly. The spacious design comfortably accommodates one person for overnights, while the 500-pound weight capacity offers peace of mind when snuggling with your sweetheart. Thoughtful design features like the Dyneema attachment points, climbing grade carabiners, and versatile Python 10 suspension straps (sold separately), all covered by a lifetime manufacturer warranty, made this hammock stand out from the competition while offering a high value in return for your investment.
What Other Hammocks Should You Consider?
The Kammok Roo Double is a super comfortable and breathable hammock with a sleek and versatile design. If you like the sounds of the Kammok Roo but are looking for a similar design for a slightly more affordable price, check out the ENO Doublenest. This hammock doesn't offer the same amount of comfort, but we imagine the slightly more rigid material may offer more longevity. Looking for something even more affordable? Check out one of our favorites for high value within an affordable design, the Wise Owl Outfitters Kit. Though not as sleek as the Kammok Roo Double, this hammock offers a similar end-gathered construction, but the suspension straps included are of far lesser quality. And finally, if you are looking for more of a backcountry shelter design that will offer more shelter from the storm, check out the Warbonnet Blackbird. This asymmetrical hammock design offers the option to purchase various accessories to customize your backcountry shelter for your specific needs.
